  • ½ tsp ground black pepper

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • ½ tbsp hickory liquid smoke
  • 6 tbsp unsulphured molasses
  • ¼ cup pure maple syrup
  • ⅓ cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 2¾ cup water
  • 8 strips thick turkey bacon
  • 3 tbsp turkey bacon grease
  • ½ cup reserved cooked bean water

Instructions

  1. Soak navy beans in water for 8–12 hours. Drain and rinse.
  2. In a large pot, boil soaked beans in 8 cups of water for about 1½ hours until tender.
  3. Preheat oven to 300°F (150°C). Drain beans and return to an oven-safe dish.
  4. Mix in brown sugar, mustard powder, salt, and spices.
  5. Stir in remaining ingredients including turkey bacon pieces.
  6. Bake uncovered for about 3 hours total, stirring halfway through.
