  • 3 cups granulated sugar (for decoration)
  • ⅔ cup water
  • 8 large egg whites
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 4 cups unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 4 to 6 drops orange food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. 1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. 2. In a large bowl, whisk together sugar, flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and salt.
  3. 3. In another bowl, mix fresh orange juice, egg yolks, and cubed butter until smooth.
  4. 4. Combine wet ingredients with dry ingredients using an electric mixer on low speed until just mixed.
