  • 140 g unsalted butter (room temp)
  • 100 g neutral oil
  • 283 g whole milk (room temp)
  • 2 eggs (room temp)
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 227 g unsalted butter (room temp)
  • 12 oz cream cheese (cold)
  • 340 g powdered sugar (sifted)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round baking pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and spices.
  3. In another bowl, cream dark brown sugar and butter until fluffy. Add oil, milk, eggs, and vanilla; mix well.
  4. Gradually combine dry ingredients with wet ingredients until just mixed.
  5. Divide batter between prepared pans and bake for 35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
  7. For frosting, beat butter and cold cream cheese until smooth; gradually add powdered sugar.
